Kremnica Travel Guide
The earliest written records proving the existence of Kremnica date only from first third of 14th century. In 1328 King Charles Robert of Anjou granted the “guests” the coin minters from Kutna Hora was not only the centre of gold and silver mining but also the seat of the Royal Mint of the Bohemian Kingdom. Shortly after their arrival, the began minting coins – the Hungarian groschen in 1329. Eight years later, gold florents enlarged this production. They became well known as Kremnica Ducats. The core of the medieval town, the “Ring” obtained its shape at that time. The Kremnica Mint is the oldest still working company of the world from 1329.
The Kremnica Castle
The National Cultural Monument. The area of the castle is formed by a group of constructions surrounded by a partially preserved double curtain wall, which is connected to the town walls. The entrance tower, which is linked to the karner (charnel house), is located on the northern side of the fortifications. The part of Kremnica Castle is also Church of St. Catherine. St. Catherina is one of the patrons of the miners. The church tower, rebuilt after the fire in 1560 shows an inscribed date “1576 – 1578”. The shape of the roof as well as the whole interior resulted from an extensive renovation into the gothic revival style executed by F. Storno at the end of 19th century.

The Holy Trinity Plague Column
In our Kremnica Travel Guide we will describe also Holy Trinity Plague Column built in Baroque style. It was designed by Dionyz Stanetti between the years 1756 – 1772. The column stands on the site of an earlier column dating from 1711 which was relocated to small village Horna Ves. Sculptures of patron saints of miners and of protectors against plague stand on a two-stepped, three-sided pedestal. The sculptural group of the Holy Trinity surmounts the column; the stone fence surrounding it dates from 1905.
Skalka Ski Center
It is one of the most popular ski & summer resorts of Slovakia, located not far from Bratislava. It is one of the centers of Cross Country Skiing in Slovakia. In Skalka is took place the first Hungarian Kingdom Ski Championship. Skalka was called also the Slovakian Semmering (the Austrian ski resort located in Alp’s, the closest ski resort to Vienna). In summer the resort is well known thanks to the ferrata route with the longest Slovakian ferrata bridge.
