The City of Bojnice<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Bojnice castle it is the most popular and visited castle of Slovakia<\/a>. The SPA town Bojnice is famous thanks to three things:\u00a0<\/p>\n

  3. SPA Bojnice<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The spa town Bojnice is located two kilometres west from former mining city of Prievidza, in region which is called Upper Nitra, thanks to Nitra river which flows thru this region. The mineral water springs and travertine caves attracted people from prehistory. The existence of a settlement round the castle mas mentioned in 1113 in a charter of the Abbot of Zobor, it is confirmed indirectly its being a property of Benedictine monastery located on Zobor mountain, near Nitra<\/a>. In middle age one of the most famous owners was ” A lord of Danube river & Tatras”, Matus Csak Trenciansky.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    The presence of mineral springs, already known in 16th century, was the reason for building baths here which gradually grew in the SPA & Health Resort. Paltaine Juraj Thurzo, Count Palffy and entrepreneur Jan Bata among were its owner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n

    Bojnice\u00a0 Castle – “Slovakian Cinderella Castle”<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

    The main dominant of city of Bojnice is Bojnice Castle<\/a> a National Cultural Monument. The contemporary romantic outlook of “Cinderella Castle”\u00a0 is the result\u00a0 of an extensive rebuilding at the turn of 19th & 20th century. The “golden era” of Bojnice Castle is connected with a person of Count Jan Palffy. After 1888 he began large-scale reconstructions. Being a great admirer of the Gothic architecture of central and southern France, especially of the castles along River Loire, and the Renaissance architecture of northern Italy. He decided to transform\u00a0 the castle completely into a stately, massive yet romantic residence where his rich collections of fine arts could also be housed. The Budapest architect J. Hubert was commissioned to work out the project of the rebuilding but Palffy himself corrected the plans and directed the work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    When the count Palffy died in Vienna in 1908, the range of construction works at Bojnice castle was significantly reduced. Much of the overall concepts and details of Pallfy’s plans as well were never realized, and the most of the art collection were sold off.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    Bojnice castle is also very popular for weddings, both civil and religious. Civil takes place in a beautiful Golden Hall, religious in a cozy castle’s chapel of St. John of Capistrano. The beauty of te environment and attractiveness of the castle are multiplied by the adjacent park, in which huge trees several hundred years old, including the King Matthew’s Lime Tree, grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n
