People still live here, traditions are alive, and every street, house, and festival tells a story you can experience firsthand.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7a6e65275a99088f96d17c97ed74beb1\"><strong>1.Vlkol\u00ednec &#8211; The Slovak Mountain Village <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-80f81452959b7a9111c087f8b3d8da84 wp-block-paragraph\">First from Slovak villages you should not miss is <a href=\"\/slovakia-history-nature-program\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"http:\/\/www.e-travel.sk\/slovakia-history-nature-program\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Vlkol\u00ednec<\/mark><\/a> (in Slovak <em>Vlkol\u00ednec<\/em>), a traditional <a href=\"\/services\/dmc\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.e-travel.sk\/services\/dmc-slovakia\/\">Slovak<\/a> mountain village located in the beautiful scenery of the Ve\u013ek\u00e1 Fatra National Park. The village lies at an altitude of 718 meters and is now part of the nearby town of Ru\u017eomberok.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-69fbe89065413c213e3bf958a00a51f8 wp-block-paragraph\">It was inscribed on the <strong>UNESCO World Heritage List<\/strong> in 1993 during the <a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/archive\/repcom93.htm\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/archive\/repcom93.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNESCO Committee <\/a>meeting held in Cartagena, Colombia. This unique village is a living open-air museum of traditional Slovak wooden architecture and folklore, and it is still inhabited today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fdd5d8937f3ee1fbee271f7d4d4b2cc8 wp-block-paragraph\">\u010ci\u010dmany is famous for its distinctive wooden houses decorated with white geometric ornaments known as the \u201c\u010ci\u010dmany pattern.\u201d This traditional design has become a national symbol and is widely used in Slovakia\u2014for example, Slovak athletes wear it on their uniforms during the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d151d529f298fdbc14b3c81a13740fd3 wp-block-paragraph\">Entrance to the village is free of charge; you only need to pay for parking.
