  • Devin Currant Wine / Devínsky Ribezliak – a unique sweet currant wine typical of the Bratislava district of Devín, made from black currants.

Check in at the hotel. The sightseeing continues on foot, exploring Bratislava’s historic city center and its main highlights, including St. Martin’s Cathedral, Mozart House, Academia Istropolitana, the Palace of the Hungarian Parliament, St. Michael’s Gate, and the hidden gem of Primate’s Palace. You’ll also see the Old Town Hall, the State Opera, the Reduta Philharmonic Orchestra building, and more.

During the walking tour, visit the National Saloon of Wines of Slovakia, home to wines from all six Slovak wine regions. Enjoy a tasting of 10 local fine wines with expert explanations from a sommelier.

Dinner will be served at a traditional Bratislava restaurant with a three-course menu accompanied by wine. Overnight stay in Bratislava.

Day 2 – Small Carpathian Wine Route

On the second day of your Slovak wine tour, explore the Small Carpathian Wine Route, located just outside Bratislava. This wine region is famous for its scenic Small Carpathian Hills, historic vineyards, and rich cultural heritage. Legend says that Frankovka Modrá, the region’s most famous wine, was favoured by Empress Maria Theresa—drinking it allegedly helped her conceive her 16 children!

Begin your tour in the charming wine town of Svätý Jur, with a tasting of five wines from the local Bognár Winery. Continue in Svätý Jur with organic wine tasting at Organic Wines Bahna, produced without any chemicals.

Next, visit Pezinok, the “capital” of Slovak wine production. Stop at the Majolika Pottery Workshop to see traditional Slovak painted pottery. Then continue to the romantic Red Stone Castle, famous for its vast cellars, historically used for storing copper rather than wine.

The tour proceeds to Elesko Vineyards, a modern winery known for high-quality wines. Explore the architecturally striking wine factory and enjoy a tasting of six wines.

End the day at Vinnum Gallery Bozen, Slovakia’s most popular wine restaurant, with a tasting of Matyšák wines in a stylish cellar. Enjoy a three-course dinner paired with half a bottle of house wine and live folk music. Return to Bratislava for an overnight stay.

Day 3- Skalica Wine Region, Royal Town & Wine Traditions

Buffet breakfast at the hotel to start your day. Depart for the Skalica Wine Region, located near the border with the Czech Republic. Upon arrival, enjoy a short walking tour of the historic town of Skalica, discovering landmarks such as the 11th-century St. George Rotunda, the elegant City House, and the serene Franciscan Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Experience the region’s winemaking heritage with a tasting in a monastery wine cellar, accompanied by a local specialty, the famous Skalický Trdelník, a sweet chimney cake unique to the area.

Continue your wine journey at Vineyards Winterberg, sampling a selection of premium local wines. The day concludes with a delightful dinner at the stylish U Studánky Wine Restaurant, featuring a tasting of five exceptional wines paired with a three-course meal and half a bottle of wine per person.

After an unforgettable day of wine, culture, and gastronomy, return to Bratislava for an overnight stay.

Do I need to know anything about wine to enjoy this tour?

Absolutely not. Some of our favourite guests on this tour were complete beginners who just liked the idea of beautiful countryside and good food. The sommeliers explain everything in plain language — no pretension, no jargon. You’ll leave knowing more than you expected, and you’ll have enjoyed every sip getting there.

How many wines will I actually taste across the whole tour?

A lot. Over the five days you’ll taste more than 40 wines across wineries, cellars, restaurants and the National Saloon of Wines in Bratislava. We pace it sensibly — this is a wine journey, not a pub crawl.

Is this tour only about wine, or is there proper sightseeing too?

Both, genuinely. Day one alone covers Bratislava Castle, the historic Old Town, St. Martin’s Cathedral and more. You’ll also visit a medieval rotunda in Skalica, a 9th-century castle in Nitra, the so-called “Rome of Slovakia” in Trnava, and the dramatic ruins of Devín Castle on the Austrian border. The wine is the thread that connects it all.

Where does the tour start and finish?

We pick you up at Vienna Airport on arrival and drop you back there on departure. So you don’t need a separate transfer from Vienna — it’s all taken care of from the moment you land. We can also adjust the tour to pick up at Bratislava Airport.

What time of year is best for a wine tour in Slovakia?

September and October are magical — the harvest is underway, the hills turn golden and the wineries are buzzing with activity. That said, the tour runs year-round and each season has its own character. Spring brings blossom on the vines, summer is warm and relaxed, and winter has a quieter, more intimate feel with mulled wine and firelit cellars.
