High Tatras — the Alps in miniature, without Alpine prices

The tallest range in the Carpathians packs 25 peaks over 2,500 m into a ridge just 26 km wide — which is why locals call it the smallest big mountains in the world. Electric railways link the resort towns, cable cars climb to Lomnický štít, and glacial lakes like Štrbské Pleso sit right off the promenade.

For operators the Tatras are the value alternative to the Alps: mountain hotels, licensed guides and luggage-moved trekking at Central European rates, one hour from Poprad and within a day-trip of the Spiš UNESCO belt.
