Košice — Slovakia's slower, grander second city
Košice rewards the operators who route east: St. Elisabeth Cathedral — Europe’s easternmost Gothic cathedral — anchors the longest lens-shaped square in the country, ringed by palaces, the singing fountain and the country’s densest cluster of national monuments.
It pairs naturally with the Spiš UNESCO belt (Spiš Castle, Levoča) and the Tokaj wine cellars an hour south — a two-or-three-day eastern block that no Bratislava-only itinerary can offer.
