What does a Slovak ancestry tour include?
A Slovak ancestry tour is a privately guided programme built around one family’s history — the surname, the ancestral village and the records that survive there — with the research, logistics, accommodation, private guiding and translation handled by us.
A programme typically includes:
- A visit to the ancestral village — the place where great-grandparents were born, married and buried
- Time in regional archives or parish offices, searching the old records together
- Local cemeteries, to find family names
- Meeting local people — in some cases a visit with distant relatives still living in Slovakia
- Traditional food and folk traditions along the way
The tour is led by our specialist guide — a driver-guide who speaks English, Spanish, German and Russian and specialises in the late-19th- and early-20th-century emigration from Slovakia — and can run anywhere from Bratislava to the Ukrainian border. A surname, an old document or a family story is enough to start. Send what the family knows via Request a Proposal; who we build these for is under Do you offer heritage or ancestry tours for Slovak-Americans?
